SOLEA POR BULERIAS is a mid tempo 12 count palo (rhythm). As the name suggests, it's a Soleares with the drive of Bulerias. The structure of the letra (verse) is like Solea. The accents are on 12, 3, 6 (sometimes 7), 8 and 10, with 12 being the beginning of the compás.

The first video is a lecture with slides where I go over the complete structure. The second is a video walkthrough and Q&A of several dances. Then there are walkthroughs of individual dances. Enjoy!

If you know the structure of the letra, then you can *always* improvise it!

The letra has 7 lines with the following pattern:

  • 1st line- song
  • 2nd line- a break (no singing, but accented guitar and dancing)
  • 3rd line- repeat the words of the 1st line
  • 4th line- song with the melody rising (1st couplet)
  • 5th line- singer resolves melodically and the dancer accents
  • 6th line- song with the melody rising, usually a repeat of the lyrics from the 4th line (2nd couplet)
  • 7th line- singer resolves melodically and the dancer accents, usually a repeat of the lyrics from the 5th line

The structure of the complete dance:

  • entrada (entrance)
  • llamada (call for letra)
  • letra (1st verse)
  • llamada (call for 2nd letra)
  • letra (2nd verse)
  • falseta (guitar interlude)
  • escobilla (footwork section)
  • subida (footwork pattern that raises the tempo)
  • buleria (final fast letra of dancing in 12 count)
  • estribillo (the chorus at which the dancer ends)
