Core Program Block Three
MODULE 2
The "SUBIDA" is footwork that brings up the tempo and energy of the music. It is commonly used as a transition to culminate in a remate/llamada (a break).
Beginner- Tientos:Â The "subida" for Tientos can also be used for every 4-count rhythm (Tangos, Farruca, Taranto)
- Music: Jose Tanaka Tangos @80 & @100 bpm, Escuela de Flamenco Tientos @120, escobilla lenta
Intermediate- Solea: When doing "subida" in Solea, the compás is faster and either goes into "double time" Solea or switches to more of a Buleria tempo.
- Music: Jose Tanaka Solea por Bulerias @100, 120, 140 bpm
Advanced- Seguirilla:Â The technique is the same, but the timing is adjusted to the 5-count rhythm of Seguirilla.
- Music: Solo Compas Siguiriyas @120, 168, 200 bpm
BONUS videos:Â The lesson and drills is for basic 12 count (much like the Solea video) and you can adapt it for all 12 count rhythms (Alegrias, Solea por Buleria, Guajira, etc).
- Music:Â Solo Compas, Solea por Bulerias, track #1 (slow), #2 (medium), #8 (fast with guitar)
TIP:Â If the tempo is too fast, then stay with the slower tempo until you get stronger. You can either add arms or play palmas for yourself to add a level of complexity.
